The trout populations and bug life of both the Watauga River and South Holston River will astound you, and provide fishing reminiscent of western rivers. The South Holston and Watauga River are fly fishing meccas, and are definitely two of the best trout fisheries in the southeast and probably in the eastern United States. Smallmouth bass fishing in NC and VA on the New River
Tri-State Angler offers both fly fishing and spin fishing guide trips for smallmouth bass, fishing the New River in both North Carolina and southwest Virginia. The New River has been rated as one of the top three smallmouth rivers in the country. For experienced anglers, we offer trophy smallmouth bass trips on the New River in Giles County Virginia, one of the hottest smallmouth destinations in the country. Tri-State Angler is not just a trout guide service that also does a few smallmouth bass trips. We have been smallmouth fishing the New River in North Carolina and Virginia for many years and understand smallmouth bass and how to fish for these often moody and finicky fish. Muskie are also a possible added bonus on New River float trips, occasionally offering our anglers a big surprise!
Exclusive Private Water
Tri-State Angler is proud to offer guided trips on an exclusive private property that you must be see to believe! Fishing oppurtunities abound on this property! There is 3/4 of a mile of trout stream with both stocked and wild rainbow trout, a trout pond stocked with 2 to 5 pound rainbows, a native eastern brook trout stream and 2 warmwater ponds with largemouth bass and monster bluegill. Lodging is also available in a beautiful cottage that will sleep several people having 3 bedrooms and 4 beds. Access is limited to 1 group per day. This is truly a special fishing destination that is scenic, very private and has many different fishing oppurtunities.

Also we can serve people visiting tourist areas or golf clubs in Roaring Gap , West Jefferson , Banner Elk , Blowing Rock or Boone with fly fishing opportunities during their stay in the mountains. Fly fishing any of the numerous wild trout waters in the state, smallmouth bass floats on the New River in North Carolina or Virginia, or one of the many delayed harvest streams in NC. The delayed harvest streams are perfect class rooms for beginning anglers, people who are pressed for time or just want to pick up a tip or two to improve their fly fishing. Delayed harvest trips run from Oct. 1st until June 1st. Small native brookies and feisty wild rainbows and brown trout await you on our hike-in wade trips on small wild streams providing a fun and enjoyable day along with awesome scenery.
